Sitges Bitches!

21/05/18 – 25/05/18 – Sitges

W e have both been to Sitges twice previously for Justin and Brandon’s wedding and Justin’s 40th, both times in quite large groups (Sitges Bitches). So this time around we weren’t sure if it would feel the same with it being just the 3 of us.

We found a parking spot to the north of the town centre close to Sitges Port, overlooking a small beach, playa de la Marina Aigudolç that cost the princely sum of €3.60/24 hours. It was such a stunning location, we didn’t want to leave, but after 3 nights we needed our water tank topping up. There were 2 other Mohos parked up – one either side of us and it wasn’t long before one of our neighbours came to introduce himself and give us the low-down on avoiding fines etc – thanks Pablo 🙂

The first night we had a quick walk around the Marina which mainly comprised expensive restaurants (to our budget at least) and a few boat related shops, followed by dinner in the van.

The next coupe of days we spent time either walking or cycling around town interspersed with spells on the beach. There are so many restaurants, cafes, bars and clubs to try it truly is somewhere we will never get bored of as there is somewhere new or something has changed every time we visit.

Our 3rd night was our last night of wild camping at the port, Pablo greeted us back from our day out with a beer to spread the neighbourly love – thanks again Pablo 😉  – We would have stayed longer but we needed to use the services of a campsite so headed off to El Garrofer the next morning.

El Garrofer is just behind the golf club to the south of Sitges and about 1.5 mile walk from the town centre. For €20/night we would have expected slightly better in that half of the facilities were closed for no apparent reason ie the swimming pool, half the shower block and the beach gate was also locked resulting in a much further walk to the beach. Having said that although the shower block was looking a little tired, the shower cubicles were large and there was plenty of hot water.

Not sure if Marley liked the site as there were LOTS of cats to wind him up at every opportunity. I’m sure they were waiting outside our door for his evening walk!

Food and Drink

We ate out once during our 4 nights in Sitges at a place on the seafront called the Beach house for an evening meal. They were super dog friendly and would have let us take Marley up on to the roof terrace should we have wished. We both went for the Spanish option of Burgers 😉 mine beef and Lorraine’s Haloumi – both huge and both delicious. I would definitely recommend a visit.

Also on the seafront closer to the castle, we had a coffee at a place called Abraxas, whilst we didn’t eat, the menu looked great for breakfast/brunch serving thing like avocado on toast etc.  We did go back to eat there in the evening, but it turns out they only open on Thursday for dinner.

Sangria @ Parrots #catwalksitges

Drinks wise, we went back to the good old favourite of Parrots. For those who haven’t been to Sitges Parrots is a bar in the heart of the gay area on Carrer de Joan Tarrida – nicknamed ‘the catwalk’ as all the bars seating and tables face inward either side of the promenade – truly a place to watch or be watched. We both had a Sangria which turned out to be extremely strong and made for an interesting cycle back home

On a final food note, we did our top up shop @ Aldi – Lorraine loved it there as there were many veggie options such as veggie sausages, escalopes or fancy salads with quinoa or bulgar wheat.

Doggie Friendly

Sitges is a super dog friendly town, most restaurants offer dog bowls of water and will let sit outside with them. We were also invited into the Havianna’s shop with Marley when Lorraine was buying some new flip-flops – something that made her happy. I’m sure this is the same in most of the other shops – we didnt really bother as neither of us were in the shopping mood.

The beach playa de la Marina Aigudolç was great for Marley – we could have taken him on there at any point of the day I’m sure with no problems, but given he hates the water, we left it to the cooler hours of early morning and dusk.
