Europe’s Largest Waterfall – Rhine Falls

29/8/18 – 31/8/18 Rhine Falls, Switzerland

Situated close to  the Swiss German border, Rhine falls is Europes plaines largest waterfall. Although its only 23 metres high, its approximately 150 metres wide so the volume of water that flows through it, makes it very powerful.

Entry costs about £5, and there is about half a mile to walk down thought several viewing points to reach the bottom. The final viewing platform is by far the best as its the closest (You can almost touch the water)

At the very bottom there are several options for boat trips to see the falls close up – we decided to take the one that goes to the other side and then close to the falls on the way back (About £6/person from memory)  – top tip to take a waterproof coat as the spray can soak you depending on where you are sitting in the boat.

The falls were dog friendly throughout (Including the boat trip) and definitely worth a visit.

As there aren’t may places to stay for free in the Moho in Switzerland, we read that there was a good overnight stop just over the border in Germany in a town called Lottsletten on the hilariously named Schitterlestrasse –  We spent the previous night there and decided it would be a good place for both Moho’s for the night. On our way over to the falls, the satnav took us via a single lane timber bridge that we avoided as max height stated 2.9.  The Route back took us back via the same wooden bridge – Knowing this, we pulled over and searched for another route around – we couldnt find one that took less than half an hour and as we were all tired, Adele bravely made the decision to chance it – she said there there would be some tolerance above the height given and decided to lead the way. We were on lookout duty behind to check she could make it. (Her Moho is 3.2M tall – our is only 3M)

I have to say, it was either extremely brave, or extremely stupid but we watched her slowly inch her way through the bridge – it was stressful watching them but she passed though without any scrapes, so we knew we could make it through. (Thats the bridge below)

Needless to say, when we got back we needed a drink – we found some Grapefruit beer at the local Lidl about 100 metres or so away from camp before moving onto the G&T’s.
