Run-to-the-Sun – Poitiers

11/05/18 – 12/05/18 – Poitiers (Nieuil-l’Espoir) Nouvelle-Aquitaine

Today was the start of our run-to-sun mammoth drive (Or at least compared to date.) We left Monteneuf around 1pm and spent the majority of the afternoon avoiding the toll roads and driving approximately 350km through the rain to arrive at our destination Nieuil-l’Espoir, a pretty free aire just outside of Poitiers.

The aire should have accommodated 12 Moho’s but unfortunately due to British motorhomers who parked too far apart from one another, the aire was completely full. Luckily, there was an adjacent carpark where we spent some time thinking do-we-dont-we until some other campers turned up and we decided to stay.

It’s a beautiful location to stay, set around a river and lake with giant carp and cat fish  – Lorraine thought there maybe alligators given the big splash they made! We took Marley for a walk and thought we’d see if he’d go down the slide in the park, which he did. I know he’s not a kid but he loves it!

We spent the rest of the evening drinking beer and wine in the van, whilst planning where to stop the next day.

As it turned out, the following morning the rest of the carpark was full with other moho’s who had the same idea as us and to just park it and see what happens.

Before heading off, just the toilet cassette to empty – not the most pleasant of jobs at the best of times but this time around we had an audience of a couple of Brits who were determined to be next, so as Brits do, it was time to form that queue that we love so much!

Doggie Friendly

The aire was perfect for dogs, the other side of the carpark opened on to a large park with lakes and a cycle trail running around the outside – although there were signs stating to keep your dog on a lead, most people didn’t and it was a great place to stretch Marley legs.
