A Load of Tossa

14/05/18 – 16/05/18 Tossa de Mar & Cala Llevado

Having spent some time in the city, we were itching to get to the coast so decided to visit the nearest beach Tossa De Mar – Yes we had a laugh at the name too…..or maybe its just us that are immature still…

We arrived just after lunchtime, it was an overcast day and we parked on the closest road we could to the beach. The walk there was somewhat depressing, through dated looking hotel developments catering for the off-season long-termers having their afternoon siesta to the scheduled entertainment…

The beach had little more to offer, it was largely empty, partly due to the weather and partly due to the time of year I suppose. The castle at the headland looked mildly interesting but not enough to draw us up there (Perhaps because we had just come from Girona). So, 10 minutes later we were heading back to the van to formulate a plan on where to go next.

Out came the ACSI app and we found a campsite with good reviews on the next bay, Cala Lledavo called Camping Llevado.

This was a big site on a steep cliff with a variety of pitches, cabins, a supermarket, restaurant and a swimming pool all overlooking a pretty beach down below. The washing facilities were a little tired, but spotlessly clean and with plenty of hot water for showering. The only inconvenience was having to carry the toilet cassette around 100m across the site and down into the shower block to empty it.

Our pitch was under some pine trees closer to the top of the site with the land falling away in front  – it looked like we were in the treetops from the inside van. There was plenty of space outside to cook and sunbathe – Marley even got to say hi to a Dutch Wire-haired Dachshund named Chef!

There is moderately difficult 3 km clifftop walk back to Tossa which we decided to take on the the next morning. It offered some great views along the coast and brought us out the other side of the castle in the old town. I’m not sure if it was because the weather had picked up, or because we had approached it from a different angle, but today Tossa didn’t seem so depressing.

We headed that afternoon and cooked some food on the Cadac (Gas Bbq) before heading off the next morning. All in all the site cost us €20/night including tourist tax.

Foodtastic

On our way to our next stop it was time to visit Carrefour and do our fist Spanish supermarket shop….I must admit, I was in heaven….Lorraine stayed in the van and I got free reign to choose what I wanted. I loaded up on manchego cheese, chorizo and pre-made Spanish omelette (tortilla) – something I was to become obsessed with…. I was also way cheaper than food shopping in France. On a veggie note, there are many more options than in France.
