The Magical Waters of Lake Annecy

21/8/18 – 22/8/18 – Lake Annecy, Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region On arrival at Lake Annecy the heavens opened up so there was no way we were going outside until it stopped. Instead we snuggled up inside, watched everyone else getting drenched and enjoyed our view overlooking the town with our fellow moho-ers! (GPS 45.8928362,6.1267976) The rain lasted the whole night! Lots of cars came and went throughout the evening and night, so we could see why we’d read a review saying this spot maybe popular for dogging! Quite amusing seeing so its the church carpark. We did see a few people going in and out of each other’s Moho, and giggled about it perhaps being a moho wife swap spot (not us, thank you very much). Joking aside, this free spot was actually great, we felt safe and it was a 10 minute walk downhill to the historical centre, which is what we did the following morning. Annecy is a stunning little town with lots of canals and bridges adorned with flowers, and surrounded by...

Bitter and Sweet – Bilbao

10/08/18 – 12/08/18 Bilbao, Basque Country We’d been shopping, we’d brought extra booze, we’d done our homework on where to stay IN ADVANCE (Unusual for us),now all we needed was our good  friend Rob to arrive. He was flying in late from Gatwick, so the plan was to pick him up bright and early on Saturday morning from the hotel. It had been nearly 5 months since we had last seen him, so on Friday night we were getting excited and had ourselves a couple of drinks to get in the mood. Then, the bomshell….his flight was cancelled due to bad weather and the next available flight was unsuitable ie on the following Monday……so we wouldn’t get to see him afterall. gutted. Feeling slightly shell shocked it put us in a bit of a strange mood for the weekend but there was nothing we could do, so here’s what we got up to. Parque Erandio We spent both nights here for free (GPS 43.3246846,-2.9400183) its about 6 miles outside of the town centre...

A Surfers Paradise – Guincho

11/07/18 – 14/07/18 – Guincho, Lisbon After Lisbon, we fancied a break from sightseeing and needed a good nights sleep so we took a short drive North along the coast to Guincho Beach for a few days. It is within the district of Cascais. I’d already read that Guincho beach is apparently one of the finest surfing beaches of Western Portugal, and having been there you can see why. It was so windy….enough to shake the moho. We stayed in a big car park for €2 a night overlooking the beach, which we shared with many surfers, surf schools and all the very cool camper vans that came with them!   Guicho is set amidst the beautiful Serra de Sintra Natural Park, which is clearly well loved as we saw many conservation projects happening at the time. The area has neat wooden walkways to protect the vegetation, which were great for walking Marley. The cafe, Duna Da Cresmina at the end of the walkway was a very nice treat. The cafe is very dog friendly in that they had 2 big...

Tarts and Tiles, Lisbon

09/07/18 – 11/07/11 – Lisbon I was apprehensive about driving into Lisbon in the Moho given its size and the possibility that it could quickly go wrong as it’s a hilly city (still feeling scarred from Nerja) so when we arrived I was slightly tense. We had the address of the service centre (Dometic) for the fridge typed into the navigation and it took us to what looked like a small shop on the corner of a residential street. Surely this can’t be it we said to each other. Anyway, I pulled up on a narrow street taking up 3 parking spaces and went in to investigate. It was the right place but the old guy that worked there said no motorhomes. Thanks a lot Dometic I thought. I started to explain our problem in my best Spanish – he understood enough to make me a makeshift tool to clean out the flue. I then asked if the fumes were bad – I was able to understand that the day time is fine, but he then proceeded to do an impression of someone dying at night. Half of...

Pretty, But Very Touristy – Lagos

03/7/18 – 04/07/18 – Lagos, Algarve We had heard good things in chatting to various people about Lagos, so we arrived with relatively high expectations. Always looking for somewhere free or cheap to park up for the night, we found the football stadium via searchforsites for our overnight stop for €3 for the night plus €2 for water refill and €2 for use of the laundry facilities. The stadium is approximately a 10 minute bike ride from the old part of the town, so after the heat of the afternoon had subsided, we set off to check out the town at around 17:00. There are a few beaches in Lagos, small town beaches on the south side of the river, with a much larger beach on the marina side. We visited Praia Batata (Or at least looked down on it from the mirador above) and then after dinner when it was quiet enough to take Marley on the sand,  Praia São Roque. By this time however, the wind had really started to pick up, so we spent just enough time for Marley to tire himself out...

Happy Birthday to Me!

27/07/18 – 28/06/18 – Tavira We were up early as we had the Moho booked in for some investigatory works on why the batteries didn’t seem to be charging, this gave us time to appreciate the area in the calmness of the early morning. Waking up with sea views never gets tiring, particularly when they are as beautiful as the ones here. By choice, I wouldn’t have booked the van in on my Birthday, but as it was the only slot they had for the next couple of weeks, we thought we had better take it. So off we trundled to Camperserv to get it checked out. We had a 10:00 slot, but due to being a member of staff down, we didn’t get seen until closer to 15:00. That didnt stop us going for a Birthday beer at a roadside cafe/restaurant. Lorraine and I were dubious at first, as at it looked a little run-down and untidy, we were the only people in there (it was only 11:00 though) but by lunchtime, the place started to fill up with locals. We both had our first taste of...

‘Appy Pride! Seville Orgullo

23/06/18 – 25/06/18 – Seville We’d heard that Seville was hot and had discussed staying in a hotel, but chose to test it out once there. Boy was it hot, reaching 43 degrees at its highest, so after taking turns to go and see the spectacular Plaza de España and surrounding gardens, we packed a bag, checked out of our Moho, and into a hostel. The pure reason for this was to benefit from the air con, so imagine how gutted we were when we were provided with a measley oscillating fan. Although it did work well enough to keep us cool, but more Importantly  Marley, who was struggling and at risk of getting heat stroke. The hostel was clean, quite quirky, and the lovely owner let us keep our bikes inside.  We’d planned to be in Seville for the Pride celebrations that evening, which are hosted each year for the whole of the Andalucia region. At the hostel we were a short walk away from the parade starting point, so after getting a bit of colour and glitter on, off we went to to...

My Watchtower is Bigger Than Yours – Cadiz

22/06/18 – 23/06/18 Cadiz Do we, dont we was pretty much how the conversation went for a couple of days before we eventually said we do. (Visit Cadiz that is) and we are so glad we did. Having read about it, it was often compared as a smaller, more tame Seville or Granada, and having been to Granada recently and being en-route to Seville we very nearly gave it a miss. The drive into the old town was pretty uninspiring, and I remember saying to Lorraine, if this is anything to go by, then we wont be here for very long. We knew we could park in the port for a few euros, so we headed there half expecting to be back within the hour. The old town itself is relatively small and easy to navigate. Tall old buildings with narrow cobbled streets (just about wide enough to get a car down but certainly not big enough for a Moho) are arranged in grid patterns to the west end of the peninsula. It felt very different to other parts of Spain we had visited and you could certainly feel the...

3 hours too long in Gibraltar

20/06/18 – Gibraltar They always say, if you cant say something nice, then don’t say anything at all…..So, I’ll keep this one pretty brief. We spent the night in the marina on the Spanish side as it was much cheaper to do this and then walk over the border. It was pretty reasonably priced @ 10 euros for 24 hours. It was basic, but had the usual facilities (no Electric Hook Up though). The marina was tidy and well policed and we got to watch a nice sunset not long after we arrived. Heading over the border the next day was pretty straightforward with Marley – no questions asked. We were a little disappointed the they didn’t ask for his passport! Crossing the runway was fun but from that point on we didn’t really rate it. We knew we weren’t going to do the rock before we arrived, given Marley wouldn’t be allowed in the cable car, and we had read about the monkeys being particularly vicious towards dogs at the top. I was happy to wait...

Malaga – So Much More than an Airport!

16/06/18 – Malaga I’m not sure what it is about Spanish cities, but parking spaces are a real rarity – especially when you dont know where you are going, so our first impression of Malaga was nearly our last as we were about to jack it in after searching for what seemed like about an hour. Then miraculously, we found somewhere big enough for the bohemouth….. and it was free too…Happy days 😉 We didn’t know what to expect for Malaga. Like most people I suppose, we had already judged it before we arrived. We knew it was the gateway to the Costa Del Sol, filled with British lager lout tourists however, although the city seemed to have its fair share of Brit, it didn’t really come across that way. Granted, we only visited the old part of the town for a couple of hours, but we were left feeling somewhat surprised by what it had to offer. The old quarter is dominated by both the Alcazar and the Cathedral, but there are also many other interesting...
