Another Day, Another Lake – Lac des Moines

20/08/18-21/08/18 – Lac des Moines, Auvergne Region

We headed to Lac des Moines within the Auvergne Regional Park as it seemed a good place to take a rest from driving given it’s halfway between Lake Vassiviere (our last destination) and our next destination. It turned out to be a great place to stop.

We stayed a night right on the waters edge, and had our own little place to sit and have a few beers in the sun. The lake is very pretty and there is a little beach, a few bars and restaurants, and activities such as a swimming pool and pedalos.

We’d read that someone would come and collect €5 but that never happened, so that was a bit of a bonus. There were toilets close by too, which is always handy if your own toilet is getting close to its capacity. Eeeew! (GPS 45.8935849,3.5991149)

We mostly chilled and strolled around the lake. I went for a run in the morning, which was great for me, however, it wasn’t so much fun for Dan who had to deal with Marley going mad after I ran pass them. I think Marley was confused and this sent him into a frenzy. Dan said he was pulling so hard on the lead, that he was almost choking himself whilst tracking me with his nose for what he said felt like hours until we were reunited back at the van. It was only about 20 minutes, but after that event, we agreed we would not cross paths like that again when I’m out running.

After Marley had calmed, we tidied up and were off again, but not before restocking our water, which was running very low. Dan and I have definitely grown in confidence throughout this trip…despite there being no tap for a water hose (which official motor home service points offer) we cheekily spent a while going back and forth to the toilet basin filling water bottles up to fill our tank. We have a filter on our tap, so we thought, what the heck. Sounds cheap and I’m sure it annoys some people, but you just don’t know when you’ll have an opportunity to fill up again.

Fully replenished, we headed off to Annecy our next destination. At this point, we were excited as one: it looks stunning from pictures, two: we’ll spend one night there before meeting up with our good old pals from Blighty, and three: we’re meeting them in Italy, a new country on this adventure.
