Candado Beach

15/06/18 – 16/06/18 – Candado Beach Candado Beach was a brief overnight stop where we could make a plan to visit Malaga the next day. The free overnight was complimentary of a well used, roughly level gravel carpark approximately 5-10 km outside of Malaga. We arrived early evening and took a stroll down to Candado beach next to the marina. It was a pretty small beach, approximately 200m long served by one pretty relatively swanky bar, who didn’t really look like they could be bothered to serve us (We were the only ones there at the time probably because Spain were playing that night in the word cup.) We had one beer, before heading back for an early night. It was a relatively quiet night, apart from a couple of comings and going of cars during the night. One on which seemed to think it was OK to dump all of their rubbish under their car, and then drive off. The next morning there were lots of locals fishing along the rocks which made interesting viewing for about 5...

We Left Our (Skid) Mark on Nerja

13/06/18 – 15/06/18 – Torrox and Nerja On arrival at Nerja beach there was no chance in finding a parking space so we decided to camp the first night at Torrox, the next beach along. We parked up on a piece of land where a few other Mohos were parked up and enjoyed the marijuana aromas drifting by. It felt relatively safe despite the Police call out to the group of young’ens being antisocial in the local park. The beach close by had dark sand and didn’t appear as well maintained as the beach further down the coast which seemed like a popular holiday destination. We used our beach as an opportunity to play fetch with Marley. Despite him avoiding the water at all costs, he absolutely loves being on the beach. In the evening, we took a stroll on Torrox promenade which was pleasant, plenty of restaurants and many brits. One guy told us how he’d lived there for many years and wouldn’t have it any other way. We had a couple of beers and tapas (not so tasty, probably as it was...

Glorious Granada

12/06/18 – 13/06/18 – Granada All I remember from visiting Granada as a young teen was it was hot and there was lots of traffic. Well, those memories turned out to be pretty accurate, although driving around in a 2.4m wide x 7m long Moho certainly added to the spice. We arrived mid-afternoon in search of a free overnight spot recommended on searchforsites. Having taken a wrong turn, we were soon faced with doing a 3 point turn to get down a steep ramp into town, only to find there wasnt a cat-in-hells-chance of us ever fitting in a space if there was one free, which there wasnt. So, we spent the next half an hour or so driving around trying to find some on-street parking big enough to take us. Eventually, we found somewhere on Paseo de Europa. It was around 13:30, temperatures were rising. We decided it was too hot to take Marley out in the sun, so spent the next 2 hours getting hotter and hotter in the van – driving ourselves slightly crazy. Before long Lorraine had...

Castello De Baños

11/06/18 – 12/06/18 – Castello De Baños   En-route to visit Granada, it was time to visit a campsite to replenish the mohos batteries and do some chores….Castello De Baños seemed the perfect place to enable to do this – just inside the province of Granada, on the coast and about an hours drive away from the city. The site itself had about 50 pitches, some with shade, some without, all separated with small hedges (French style) and all pretty tight to get on. We were lucky in that the site was almost empty, but I’m sure in the summer, it would be extremely difficult to get parked up – particularly if you had a large Moho. We chose a quiet pitch with no neighbours under some trees for some shade. Perfect. Within about an hour, we realised why no one else had parked under them. The small, sticky fruits were getting stuck to our shoes, to the mat leaving a mess everywhere. Marley kept eating them, and we had no idea what they were, so he had to be...

A load of old Flannel….with Paula

07/06/18 – 11/06/18 – Cabo de Gata National Park – Almeria Guest Post – Paula Karalus 9 pm Wednesday night and I am standing at the checkout in ASDA Worthing buying the holiday essentials Lorraine had suggested, a bike lock and a flannel. The message I’d received earlier in the day hadn’t expanded on why I needed a flannel…..I soon found out but I’ll leave that one to your imagination! I had needed a break for a while, and was missing my best buddy terribly, so Lorraine and Dan kindly extended an invitation to me to grab last minute flights and join them on their MoHo adventure. Almeria was chosen as the destination, simply as it offered the cheapest flights to an airport near them, and timings fitted in with my responsibilities in the UK. Not bothering to do any research at all, I was really pleased at how lovely the area, CABO DE GATA, was. Beaches, dry dusty hills, and lovely villages, a great destination. Although by far, seeing Lorraine and Dan was...

Grumpy Grandpa – La Azohia – Murcia

06/06/18 – 07/06/18 La Azohia – Murcia The drive across the hills into La Azohia was by far and away the best bit about this place…some stunning views as you drive through the valleys and catch the deep blue of the sea against the earthy tones of the scortched landscape. Having read some great reviews about the overnight stop on searchforsites, we arrived to find a rough gravelled carpark on a hill next to a small restaurant and shop. There were about 10 Moho’s on site when we arrived and although there were sea views from pretty much anywhere, neither of us liked the feel of it  – probably not helped by the abundance of flies everywhere! We had a quick walk along the beach with Marley early evening, when we were followed by a local busybody for about 5 minutes before he started shouting, telling us to get Marley off the beach (A very rocky part where no-one would go anyway.) On our way back, we could see this guy had an apartment overlooking the beach...

Nudi Beach – Playa Carabassi

4/6/18 – 6/6/18 – Carabassi/Santa Pola Our next destination was one of my favourites because of its natural beauty, the lack of tourists and its peacefulness. We got a free spot on a piece of unused land (apart from the other happy campers) right next to the rocky coastline with crystal clear water. The landscape surrounding the sea was dry but filled with wild shrubs and trees. I found it easy to meditate and do yoga, and sleeping to the sound of the sea at night was so relaxing. There is a cute little white chapel close by that was frequently visited, and some people would ring the bell outside, we assumed as part of their religious ritual. Both the locals and Police who were present, did not seem to mind dogs walking freely on the rocks and on the little beach, lucky for us as  Marley loved climbing over the rocks looking for snacks and jumping out of his skin when a tiny splash came near him. He made loads of friends which was lovely to see. Although one dog, Sammy was...

Our 13 Year Anniversary – Teulada/Moraira

03/06/18 – 04/06/18 – Teulada/Moraira Every year we remind ourselves of the actual date we got together.. it always makes us laugh as you think after all this time we would remember! We met at our mutual friend Max’s birthday party in London on 3rd June, but her actual birthday is on the 2nd June, which is the reason for our confusion. I can’t believe it’s been 13 years! We’ve done so many exciting things together, our current adventure being one of them. This year, I wasn’t quite sure what gift could actually top this. Then I came across a beautiful villa on AirB&B in Teulada owned by the lovely Wiebke (Vicky).  It didn’t quite feel right staying a night away from the Moho given we’d only been away 5 weeks, but I thought what the heck, it’s too nice not to. It would be extra special as Marley could be off his lead and hang out with us by the pool (something you can’t do at campsites). So off we hopped into the van, and just a 20 minute journey South we...

Brits Galore…..Xàbia

01/06/18 – 02/06/18 – Xàbia When I used to work for a Spanish company based near Alicante, I had often heard the town Xàbia (or Jávea) mentioned as a nice place to visit, so as were headed through that way, we thought it would be a good place to spend a couple of days on a campsite given we had just spent 9/11 previous nights in free aires/wild camping (A new record for us I think) We would have stayed away from the campsite longer but, boring as it may be, we had laundry and other Moho servicing necessitates to take care of. We stayed at Camping Jávea – A large site with tightly pack pitches, and not much privacy between them (Something the vast majority of Spanish Campsites share) our Moho is just over 6.5 meters long and I found it difficult to negotiate some of the bends. The site seemed to attract a lot of Brits and Dutch – many of them long termers (One English couple had been there 18 months.) The swimming pool was excellent and there was a bar and small...

Valencia….the Birthplace of Paella

30/05/18 – 01/06/18 – Valencia Negotiating a 7 lane roundabout was not what I expected as we entered Valencia! Fortunately, the Spanish all seem pretty relaxed when it comes to lane positioning, so long as you keep your wits about someone cutting in front of you at the last possible minute. (It also probably helps being in one of the larger vehicles on the road.) Our overnight stop for the next couple of nights would be about 5km outside of the city centre on a strip of wasteland (Glamorous I know!) about 50 meters or so from the beach ‘playa del cabanyal’ to be honest, it was fine – quiet enough at night, it felt safe and it was free. Plus close enough to cycle in to town to see the sites. There were a couple of other visiting Mohos there during our time plus one that looked like it had been there for some time. Our first outing was Ciutat De Les Artes I Les Ciences (or city of arts and sciences) designed by architects Calatrava and Candela, it it the city’s most...
